On a personal note, I still like going to Womad. (Except when it’s raining.) Loads of people of a certain age, all of us carrying our folding armchairs, and some with flasks of hot tea in their rucksacks.
Enjoyed this, Maria. Sorry health issues eventually got in the way. Funny to think of Charlton FC hosting The Who! (I used to live near there, but a few years afterwards.)
Mind you, the Isle of Wight Festival nowadays is held on a secondary school playing field, so perhaps that wasn't so odd!
I still go to IW Festival, but pace myself and no longer expect to be there all day every day. Favourite headliners included REM, Muse, Fleetwood Mac (in terms of living up to expectations).
Some of my fondest memories are of taking my son to Camp Bestival at Lulworth Castle, when he was a child and camping there. Very family-oriented, but includes lots of music. Great fun.
Great memories for you. I went to see Deep Purple in May 1974 at Hammersmith Odeon……my first experience. I’ve never been to a festival, although my son volunteered for a number of years, hoping that he’d get to see his favourites at that time….although, more often than not, he would be on toilet cleaning duty instead! x
My disco phase lasted through the life of the World Disco Championships and then into more general Sunday competitions- I learnt to hate the constant beat in every tune!! Far happier listening to calmer music now!!
I enjoyed this very much Maria.

I've heard Cropredy has a similar vibe.
Great memories Maria. A wonderful era for live music.

I think Julie asked me to that one, but I was still in my disco phase!

If you ain't going for the drugs you shouldn't be going at all.
And there I was thinking I was going for the music! Silly me. The only drugs the audience was on at Paul Weller was statins
