It’s definitely an Irish thing Maria. No one in my mums family goes by the actual name on their birth certificate!

As you know, I’m a Margaret and my daughter is Ada. She’s named after my two grandmothers Ada and Ray. I’ve never heard Bunty being used for Margaret - but there are many names from it.

It’s a lovely looking knife. Lovely post too.

Both my parents were called different names to their birth certificates - mum was always Joy although her name was Barbara Joyce, dad was known as Sam, after Sam Weller in Pickwick Papers - his names were Alan John!! I’m just plain Jane, no way to change it and no middle name to swap it with. My dad would call me Fred whenever I mentioned that I wanted a middle name! My 3 kids are all known by their unadulterated first names, but their dad uses his middle name of John rather than Lawrence! x

I've had a lifetime of people struggling to pronounce/spell my name. Looking forward to the book!
